Hey y'all, Southern Gothic Oracle Backers!!

Welcome to this growing community, first of all, and THANK YOU AGAIN for supporting me on this journey to create the first Oracle deck based on Southern mysticism and folklore. I'm so glad to have reached all of you and I'm absolutely on fire to build this into a long-term series of stories, cards and art to sustain your thirst for all things mysterious + Southern + a little grotesque... for many years hence.

So here's what's happening this week

The first 400 decks were already printed, especially because I had many Etsy pre-orders to fill... but we are of course waiting it out to see how many more of the 1st Edition should be printed to accommodate as many Kickstarter backers as possible... never, however, to exceed 1,200 decks!

So does that mean once they're sold out, they're sold out?

For the short term, yes it sure does. I believe in short-run printing and I honor my collectors' wishes to have art pieces that will only grow in value. BUT— just because there will never be another First Edition deck, does not mean there won't be future versions of the Southern Gothic Oracle. Maybe there'll be, I dunno, a Red Deck or a Black one. Maybe I'll switch up the cards. That's precisely what makes these decks so special.

What are the next products in the Southern Gothic line?

Alas! You gotta wait :) For now, place your bets on the "Haunts" expansion deck, which was FULLY FUNDED as a stretch goal!!!

Where will I find Southern Gothic Oracle products after Kickstarter?

Please sign up for the email mailing list to keep in touch with the Southern Gothic Oracle to stay connected to upcoming expansion decks, news of the weird and wonderful South, and future product drops!!

Southern Gothic Oracle... Soap!!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jul 31, 2021 at 06:27:54 PM

Memphis' own Buff City Soap has teamed up with Stacey to create a one-of-a-kind soap to celebrate the Oracle deck.  It's now a super fun add-on!

Check this out for a glimpse of them actually making it....

The soaps are hand crafted in Memphis from a rich Coconut Oil/Olive Oil blend, and mixed with protective black sea salt for great exfoliation and skin renewal.

These super-emollient bars have been infused with a Southern Gothic signature scent, reminiscent of an enchanted wooded rose garden. Notes of cedar, English roses, and pine.

Notes: Free of Harsh Chemicals, Detergents, & Preservatives. Contains a touch of mica along the glittered top edge.

Edit your pledge to make it an add-on! XOXO

Keep it clean, y'all

Update on rewards

The Black Walnut tier has re-opened!

Hi ya'll! I have good news. I have managed to get 7 more blue leather-bound journals sourced, which means I can supply more of the Black Walnut bundles to those who are interested!

If you decide you'd like to back at this level, it simply means changing your pledge. While a project is live you can adjust your pledge by visiting the project page and clicking the “Manage your pledge" button.

New add-on being added and announced TOMORROW!

I have a lovely little $6 item that I can hardly wait to share with you all tomorrow. It will be put on the Kickstarter as an Add-On... and it's a great way to support a local Memphis business who has teamed up with me. Stay tuned....

Oops! The Altar Cloth is now an "add-on"
over 2 years ago – Sun, Jul 25, 2021 at 11:04:23 PM

OK y'all! The Altar Cloth is now an Add-On.

I didn't mean to have the Altar Cloth exist only as a pledge, and not an Add-On. I am so sorry! Again, first-time Kickstarter here.

If you were hoping to get a silky altar cloth with your pledge, please make sure to edit and add it in as an Add-On. It's activated now. My apologies! I know several people have spoken to me about that and I couldn't understand why it wasn't being added. #fixed

It doubles as a beautiful head scarf :)

Quality & Quantity

Quality & Quantity

The last week has been so gratifying and also so surprising. I'm swept off my feet.

The first few people to get advance decks in their hands have raved about how they look, and especially how they feel.

I haven't spent a lot of time talking with y'all about the material quality of the Southern Gothic Oracle because of course my first priority is the message, the oracular content, the meaning. The art. These are the things I've poured my heart and soul into, but the physical aspects of the deck are important to talk about as well.

Paper

The card stock for the cards is 16pt, which means it's bendy and card-like ("thin enough") but it's nice and stiff so that it has some body and won't warp over time ("thick enough"). Thicker than a Bicycle playing card.

Lamination

The cards are coated in a substance called lamination, which is different from the laminating you do at the copy store. It's kind of a varnish, you might say. Lamination is the thing that makes cards matte and soft or glossy and slick. I decided to go with matte and soft for the deck, and it's a nylon laminate that makes the surface feel like rose petals. I'm not even exaggerating... LOL

USA printing and production

The cards were printed here in my own hometown of Memphis by a family-owned press. The 45 card piles are each collated by hand by a local team, and if one has a scratch or a smear, it's taken out and replaced with a perfect one.

Quantity

The full deck is not yet printed; only a beginning portion (fewer than 400) are off the press. More paper is being ordered to complete the first edition. I have reserved only 100 decks to sell post-Kickstarter, and those will only be released on a very special, limited basis. As for the final number, it will be determined by the success of the Kickstarter, but not to exceed 1,200 copies. Period.

Will future decks be printed?

Yes. Or rather, "gosh I hope so!" However, they will not be exactly the same as the First Edition Blue Deck, which is what you're pledging for here. They will never be for sale on any mainstream retail platform, such as [the big web site with the space traveler guy].

Any future editions will be marked as "Second Edition" and/or will have distinguishing features to make them different and special, too. Your First Edition decks will be truly unique!

I hope you've enjoyed this behind-the-scenes chat about the physical nature of the decks, and printing and such talk. Ask me anything if you're curious about the process!

XO
